#NoDARKAct

By mike flugennockThursday - July 7th, 2016Categories: environment

The so-called “DARK Act”, working its way through the US Senate, is a pro-corporate bill full of loopholes disguised as a GMO labeling bill which, in fact, hides GMO information behind QR codes and toll-free telephone numbers.

Prior to the Senate vote yesterday, my long-time comrade Adam Eidinger and his pals from the Organic Consumers Association protested the influence of Monsanto in the Senate by flinging money — yep, that’s right, $2000 in real cash money — onto the floor of the Senate.

Find out more about the DARK Act at the Organic Consumers Association.

Those of you who’ve been following the Hillary Clinton campaign recently — you poor sufferers — are probably aware of Hillary’s close ties to Monsanto and her continued support for GMO crops. In fact, her support for GMOs recently earned her the nickname “Bride Of Frankenfood” from Iowa environmentalists.

It’s an “Eat-In” for Food Democracy!

By mike flugennockThursday - March 7th, 2013Categories: Globalization, Occupy, environment

By this time, most of you — especially in the progressive activist community — have heard the old “stone soup” story. Based on the concept of “stone soup”, Occupy Monsanto, as part of its ongoing campaign against GMO foods and for citizen awareness of GMOs, is staging an “eat-in” on the grounds of the FDA’s Center For Food Safety And Applied Nutrition in the suburbs of Washington, DC on April 8. The organizers are inviting folks to bring their favorite organic ingredients for a vegetarian soup to be cooked at the event, designed to raise awareness of the FDA’s recent decisions on GMOs in favor of Monsanto, and the entirely-too-close relationship between corporations and the FDA, especially in the person of its Deputy Commissioner for Foods, Michael Taylor.

So, folks… are you hungry for a little “food democracy”?
