Smokey the Bear, remix

By mike flugennockThursday - January 26th, 2017Categories: Trumpism, environment, liberty, media

Here’s a quick one in solidarity with the dissident National Park Service employees running a “rogue” Twitter account on their own time to continue posting environmental information currently under lockdown by the White House.

This poster is a remix of a poster I did about 11 years or so ago, as part of an effort to inspire some local action in solidarity with the Rainbow Gathering being attacked by Forest Service police in West Virginia.

Reporting Is Resistance

By mike flugennockThursday - July 24th, 2014Categories: Middle East, liberty, media, war and peace

From police assaults on citizens photographing Occupy protests to Al Jazeera reporters’ imprisonment by the Egyptian regime, journalists have endured escalating attacks by authoritarian regimes both in the US and abroad.

It’s gotten to the point where simply reporting the news is an act of resistance.

Wikileaks Alternate Links Available!

It’s often been said, ever since the days of Usenet and Tiananmen Square, that the Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. As it was in those bygone days, so it is today, as the US State pressures Wikileaks’ “cloud” provider and DNS service to take steps in an attempt to silence dissent.

The problem is — at least, if you’re the US State, it’s a problem — Wikileaks can still be reached on the Web via any number of alternate links, such as through its numeric “dotted quad” IP addresses here and here. It can also be reached through its alternate domains in Switzerland and the Netherlands.

I’d like to encourage everyone reading this to follow that grand old Web censorship-defeating tradition of “mirroring” and passing alternate links around, and post these links to your blog or Web site:

http://213.251.145.96/
http://46.59.1.2/
http://wikileaks.ch/
http://www.wikileaks.nl/

Wikileaks is also mirrored at over 200 sites worldwide.

Tough luck, Barack. Better luck next time, Hillary.
