Revolution: It’s back

By mike flugennockTuesday - February 8th, 2011Categories: Middle East, liberty

Hah, and you thought all the fun ended when the Berlin Wall fell.

As most of you of a certain age will recall, a boatload of American right-wing triumphalists declared “the end of history” around 1989 or ‘90, right about the time the old Soviet “satellite states” were overthrown by vast popular movements and took the xUSSR down with them. Along with Dr. Fukuyama’s famous screed, there were a whole host of others who also declared the era of revolution to be over.

Uh, ohhhhhhh.

Suppress Our Tweets… We’ll Still Take The Streets!

By mike flugennockThursday - February 3rd, 2011Categories: Middle East, liberty

Recent events in Tunisia and Egypt have proven that the Internet and social networking on the Web have been instrumental in organizing and inspiring people to rise up against tyranny and spreading the news, but any desperate dictator out there should know by now that simply shutting off the Internet can’t stop a real revolution — especially in Egypt, where President Mubarak was a day late and a dollar short in trying to stop a popular uprising by crippling the Internet.

Here’s a piece that was inspired by a sign I saw carried by someone at last Saturday’s solidarity demonstration at the Egyptian Embassy:

Mubarack Obama

By mike flugennockWednesday - February 2nd, 2011Categories: Middle East, Obamarama, liberty

A quick’n'dirty one, while I try and think of some decent Egypt cartoons.

Do you realize that if you take the “Mu” off of “Mubarak” and stick a “c” before the “k”, you get Barack? Huh, no goddamn’ wonder President Sparkle Pony spent the past week sitting on his ass going “uhh, b’deah, b’deah, b’deah…”

Fallujah Minuteman

By mike flugennockMonday - July 4th, 2005Categories: Bushit, Iraq, liberty, war and peace

God damn, well, I declare! Have you seen the like?
Their walls are built of cannonballs,
their motto is ‘Don’t Tread On Me’!

–grateful dead.

In 1776, gangs of raggedy-assed guerrilla resistance fighters took on the largest, best-equipped, best-trained Imperial Army on the planet, and dished them out a harder licking than they ever expected…and you know the rest. So it is in 2004, when gangs of raggedy-assed guerrilla resistance fighters take on the largest, best-equipped, best-trained Imperial Army on the planet, it’s looking once again like King George’s goons are going to get a worse whuppin’ than they ever expected. Seems as if even as they crow about how much of Fallujah they “control”, the largest, best-equipped etc. Imperial Army is actually being surrounded, jumped, and sucker-punched every time they turn around by the aforementioned raggedy-assed guerrillas, as the Resistance spreads across Iraq, and King George’s boys are left “squeezing Jello” in Fallujah. And it’s to them, the Iraqi resistance, the “Minutemen” of Fallujah, I dedicate this cartoon. Viva la Fallujah!
