{"id":2463,"date":"2018-04-13T18:47:14","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T22:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sinkers.org\/stage\/?p=2463"},"modified":"2018-04-16T14:09:23","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T18:09:23","slug":"blast-from-yer-past-a16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sinkers.org\/stage\/?p=2463","title":{"rendered":"Blast From Yer Past: &#8220;A16&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Oh, that good old <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sinkers.org\/posters\/seattleanniversary\/seattleanniversaryposter_notext.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Spirit Of Seattle.<\/a> Turtles\u2019n&#8217;Teamsters everywhere.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sinkers.org\/posters\/a16flashback2018\/antiglobtheme.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: 0px none; margin: 0px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sinkers.org\/posters\/a16flashback2018\/antiglobtheme650w.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"820\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The mood and solidarity between different parts of The Movement<\/strong> \u2014 folks like old-skool unionists and environmentalists discovering common goals and realizing they were fighting the same fight against the same enemy \u2014 were electric and invigorating in the months following Seattle, and none quite like the personal charge I got when, just a couple of weeks afterwards, I saw the action call posted in alt.activism for the April IMF\/World Bank Mobilization in Washington, DC, for April 16, 2000 \u2014 the now-legendary \u201cA16&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/33671847?portrait=0\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/33671847\">Blast From Yer Past: &quot;A16&quot; IMF\/WorldBank Mobilization, 04.16.00<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/flugennock\">Mike Flugennock<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At last, no more watching for little shreds of TV coverage, of scouring another city\u2019s IMC postings \u2014 the revolution circus was coming to <em>my<\/em> town, and I was going to actually <em>be <strong>in it,<\/strong><\/em> and photographing and taping it, and telling the story of that week for everybody else out there\u2026 and, the wheatpasting. Oh, yeah, the wheatpasting&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: 0px none; margin: 0px;\" src=\"http:\/\/sinkers.org\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/moreworldA16series650w.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"1320\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These posters also appeared on t-shirts sold to benefit the Mobilization for Global Justice. The t-shirts had their own special heroic history; maybe a couple of weeks before A16, the convergence space was raided and shut down by the cops and the fire marshal on trumped-up fire hazard (coleman stove brewing coffee) and explosives (coleman stove tank) charges and, in the process, a large number of the shirts were seized.
